”Entering service in February, 1963 the Grumman A-6 “Intruder” was born out of the U.S. Navy’s need for an all-weather carrier-based attack aircraft. First seeing combat during the Vietnam war, the A-6 became invaluable to the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines due to its ability to deliver 18,000 pounds of ordinance rain or shine. The large and blunt nose of the A-6 combined with its slender tail earned it the nickname “Iron Tadpole”. The A-6 was retired in February of 1993 after 30 years of service.”
