”Entering service in January 1964, the Grumman E-2 “Hawkeye” is the first purpose designed airborne early warning command and control carrier plane in service with the U.S. Navy. Only one of two propeller powered planes still in service with the U.S. Navy, the E-2 provides long range aerial radar for the carrier strike group, allowing it to better defend itself from incoming threats. The E-2 can simultaneously track more than 2,000 targets from 400 miles away and has a 6 hour endurance.”
