On both “Tomcat” and “Turkey” text reads:
“Introduced on September 22nd, 1974 the Grumman F-14 Tomcat flew tens of thousands of combat sorties until its last combat trap on February 8th, 2006. Between April and June of 1999 alone the F-14’s of CVW-8 flew more than 4,270 sorties with zero losses. Carrier crews nicknamed the F-14 “Turkey” for its looks as it went through control surface checks as all the moving flaps, elevators, ailerons, and rudders resembled a Turkey ruffling its feathers.”
