”First flown on August 27th, 1990 the Northrop and McDonnell Douglas YF-23 “Black Widow II” was the other finalist to the U.S. Air Force’s ‘Advanced Tactical Fighter’ program. The YF-23’s competition was the YF-22 from Lockheed-Martin and while both were fairly evenly matched, the YF-22 was eventually chosen as the victor of the ATF program. The two built YF-23’s were transferred to NASA where they were placed in storage until 1996 to become museum pieces.”
