”Introduced on December 28th, 1942 the Vought F4U Corsair flew more than 64,000 sorties between U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps service during the war. Despite its early technical issues, by the end of the war the Corsair and its variants had 2,100 air combat victories with only 189 losses resulting in an overall 11:1 kill ratio and earning it the nickname “Whistling Death”.”
