This guide on how to weather a scale model tank covers the how of scratching, chipping, washes, streaking and simple mud so that you can get going on weathering your armored scale models! It also covers the why each step is done the way it is so if you don’t have a reference photo to work off of, you can still create realistic effects. While the weathering is accomplished mostly through the use of Ammo by MiG products, the same type of product can be used from any brand.

This guide is perfect if you’re just starting out building plastic scale models, or if you’ve spent time building, but have never tried weathering or are just trying out model tanks for the first time.

These are the steps I do in weathering as a baseline, if I build armor, it gets weathered using at least these steps. Don’t forget to zoom in on the photos so you don’t miss any of the little details.
